Alcohol- this is an intoxicating beverage made by fermenting sugar-containing material. It mainly contains the organic compound, ethanol.

Alcoholic- this is a person who is addicted to alcohol. Also known as dipsomaniac or drunkard. It may also mean pertaining or containing alcohol.

Alcohol addicts may become incompetent in work as compared to their co-workers. This absenteeism may lower the interest making sources of an organization. This absenteeism may come about due to medical complications, or serving jail terms for crimes committed or even withdrawal from work to nurse alcoholic patients. When an employee does this without their positions being replaced, they become unattended to, hence putting activities in that post to a standstill.
